Change is the only constant thing. As time passes, you become more surrounded by people from diverse generations with ages-long generation gaps. A company’s approach to attracting a new generation of talent needs to be modified to avoid any gaps disrupting the workflow. The goal is not just to build a new workforce, but to retain and engage them! The objective is to help them realize their full potential as well as to familiarize them with the vices of the corporate world.

To accomplish this, it is essential to take appropriate and relevant actions:

    • Opportunity Attracts Talent:

The new generation of people nowadays has a strong desire to make a difference. To make it possible, they look out for diverse challenging opportunities. The more the challenges, the more their growth will be! Thus, to attract them towards the opportunities, you need to make opportunities deserve each of them. It should not be boring like the jobs in the past used to be. Both millennials and Gen-Z have an appetite for hunger.

    • Make Them Provide Value:

Employees nowadays are not just in search of more and more money, but more value too. It’s not a secret that they’ll earn money only by doing meaningful work and providing values and solutions to someone. Thus, make the job role and the relevant projects more meaningful to their growth rather than just to the organization.

    • Technology Is The Answer:

Well, no one is unaware of the fact that Gen-Z is extremely tech-savvy. Knowing this, how can one not make technology more helpful in engaging them! Make good use of technology, and introduce it into the daily routine at your workplace. They know to get things done in a click, thus all you need to do is let them do that! If you can bring something new to use for things easy for them, it’ll be a great way to retain and engage them.

    • Keep Fuelling The Entrepreneur In Them:

The new generation has grown up seeing their parents, relatives, etc depressed about their 9 to 5 jobs. Thus, the last thing they don’t want is that. Most of the employees today may be thinking of doing something extraordinary tomorrow. Be it designing the new coolest eCommerce website, grocery delivery service with additional facilities, faster food deliveries, or maybe something we CAN’T even think of. Thus, don’t let the entrepreneur within them die! Fuel them more with leadership tasks. Keep introducing something new and fun in their daily routine to keep their thinking intact. These might even help you gain even more responsible juniors.

    •  Line-up The Goals:

They will make you achieve your company’s goal, while you help them achieve theirs! How does that sound? Weird? Interesting? Both? Well, yes you can work like a pirate crew, where the crewmate grows out of their shell throughout the journey while contributing to the captain’s goal. The captain too helps them by believing in them and giving them a job they fit in. The skill they’re good at and want to grow in should be their primary job at your workplace. Look out for what your employees’ strengths and weaknesses are. When you’ll help one in developing out of his\her shell, others will be motivated and attracted to work with you just as that!

You might have taken a career break at some time in your life or recently or might be thinking to take one. However, more than this you may probably be thinking about what would happen. Moreover, that question mark is making your break negligible. Whatever the reason behind your break, there are always chances to make it less obvious in your resume or just make it more professional. Here are some tips for the same:

    • In case the gap is just some months, then what you can do is remove the months from your resume. Yes, just keep a record of your years there. This way it gets less conspicuous in front of the interviewer.
    • Forget about the chronology. Nowadays, people don’t follow chronology in their resumes. Skill-based resumes are more easily seen. Candidates arrange it based on the skills required in their upcoming interview or the online job they’re applying to. This can save you from showcasing a lot of unnecessary information.
    • You can also show any sabbatical leave you took for taking an active part in any volunteering event. Not just that you can also add if you might have studied some additional courses or took any online classes, learned new skills, or worked as a freelancer full-time/ part-time.
    • To do this, you can just add a section of ‘Career Break’ in your resume, mentioning this gap, adding your experience in bullets.

Besides, a break can be seen as a positive one. No matter if it was for financial, medical or whatsoever reason. Since and after the pandemic, many people lost their jobs, and students started taking classes online. That was when most of us actually got used to utilizing a ‘break’. This wasn’t the break we took but the one we needed. Some upskilled themselves embracing the side hustle, while some are still working hard to get out of their coccoon.

You are not stuck, you are not alone, you will reach there just in time.

In case this is your first full-time job, let me tell you. A notice period is a duration that starts from the moment an employee drops their resignation letter to the last day of their work. A notice period is provided to finish off any leftover projects, and other works, and for knowledge transfer. A two-week to a month-long notice period is the most common one. The range of these notice periods varies from 15 days to up to 3 months.  It is generally mentioned in your employment contract and is necessary to be performed professionally. In case of any confusion, you can anytime, check it in your agreement.

Here are a bunch of things you need to do during your notice period:

    • Communicate With Your Boss First:

This is the most important step and thus should be prioritized. Speak to your boss decently, and inform him about your decision. They might ask you why you are resigning, tell them politely, whatever it is. This step makes a room for him to ponder over your decision and think about the very next step and whether or not to place a counteroffer. If they forget to mention how it should be informed to others, ask the same yourself.

    • Work Professionally:

These being your last working days don’t make them any less professional. Do your work constantly, gracefully, and with focus. No matter how many months or years you’ve served your office, these last days will play a great role in defining your reputation there. Behave well. In case of too much workload, try speaking to your manager or boss and asking them to reduce it a little.

    • Knowledge Transfer:

Some of your left projects might be those of long term thus, it might not be possible for you to complete all of them. For this purpose, plan a meeting with your replacement, and let them know you’re leaving and that’s why they need to take over the role and responsibilities. Transfer all the information related to the work, introduce the person to the teammates, and tell him to take their help in any confusion or problem. Also, it might be helpful to tell him how you managed this position until now and how you used to complete these projects on time. Moreover, do motivate him for the same.

    • Pack Up With All The Documents & Finances:

Kindly get a no-dues and clearance certificate before you leave. Transfer any important files you had there to your computer, log out any of your mails, for you obviously will not have any access to your desk later. Calculate all your finances such as salary, PF, and any applied bonus, and do all your final settlements before leaving.

    • Thank Them & Bid Them Farewell:

Last but not least. Amidst all the ups & downs, pressure & completion of targets, hustle & achievement of deadlines, it has quite been a journey. Show gratitude to your colleagues, teammates, seniors, and your boss. You can prepare a little farewell speech in case things get formal. Remember there’s no need to shut the doors behind you. Leave on a good note, stay in touch with them, and dump all the bad memories in the trash, paths can be crossed again anytime you never know.

You can also ask your supervisor, HR, or manager to write a LOR or an experience letter for you, as it will create a very good impression when applying for a new role.

Well, your work doesn’t end here, it has just started. You may or may not have a job offer just yet. You may be unemployed for some time, but don’t get demotivated, it hardly takes a day or two to get a fine job these days. Apply for the role in the company you planned to, or even if you haven’t then do it now! Plan it and get it! There are so many apps these days through which you can easily bag a good job offer, then what’s there to think about? Let’s get started.

Gone are the days when you go to job agencies or the company itself to look for jobs. People, nowadays have the convenience of applying to jobs, sitting on a couch, or at their desk in another job. This all seems so easy just because of LinkedIn. LinkedIn, a professional social networking site, has made it so hassle-free to be a ‘go-getter’ for any job. However, just using LinkedIn to update your profile now and then, without actually making use of all of its features, can make you miss several fine opportunities your way.

Here are some ways in which you can extensively use LinkedIn for bagging a job:

    • Create a professional profile:

First things first. So, the first thing you should do on Linkedin is to create a bomb profile. Write your full name & select a professional profile picture. Then comes your headline which will appear just below your name, it will help you get appeared in searches. Say, someone searched for ‘Content Writer’, if you have written ‘Content Writer’ in your headline, then you’ll start to appear in the search after some time. You can add other elements like your current position, educational background, work experience, skills, any additional course you took, any website of yours & a background banner where you can show the services you offer. Now there’s also a creator mode for more personalizations.

    • Create your resume:

While applying for jobs, you will need a resume, of course. You can create a professional resume in several ways. In the very beginning when you don’t want to be too overwhelmed, you can just use google docs or LinkedIn itself for a simple yet decent resume, which will hardly take you 10 mins. If you’re experienced enough and want a sophisticated resume, a personalized one, you can go for Canva. There you’ll find lots of templates, elements, fonts, etc for free.

    • Spread out your network:

Making connections with people in the field helps you to know their experiences challenges, do’s, and don’ts. People generally post on LinkedIn about their previous internships, years of hardships, and their consistent efforts despite consequent failures. Besides, your feed will also show the posts they’ve liked. In many cases, people post about them hiring someone, and if one of your connections has liked the post, you’ll be able to see it as well.

    • Make a portfolio (if required):

A portfolio is where you show your sample works like writing samples in the case of a writer, logo and design samples for a graphic designer, illustrations for an illustrator, and so on. If it’s required in your field to showcase your abilities, then make a decent portfolio. Many sites allow you to design a portfolio for free like Wix.

    • Apply for jobs (consistently):

It will hardly take you a WEEK if you consistently apply to the jobs, however, if you break the flow it might take you MONTHS for the same. It’s understandable to get demotivated as you face rejections, but continuously getting rejected is still better than not even giving a chance to yourself. Thus, believe in yourself, be consistent, and apply to as many jobs of your interest as you can. You can also use hashtags for finding jobs.

    • Be prepared for the interview:

Applying for so many jobs means you can get an interview mail any day. It can be on a voice call, web conference, or walk-in, regardless of that, you need to be prepared for any of them. You can expect questions about your work experience, your relationship with your ex-employees, the reason for leaving the job, your last CTC, your skills, things you know about your field, your weaknesses, your strengths, etc.

    • Utilize hashtags:

If you’re good at content creation or even if you’re not, but you find it interesting then this is for you. You can make posts on LinkedIn in written or other formats. Through this, you can spread information relevant to your field, interact with your connections, and maybe even spread it further. Hashtags let us increase our profile engagements.

    Hope this answer helps!

A young kid – How to manage when both parents are working?

Life is like a journey and the early years of it lay a foundation for a child’s character and mindset. It is essential to make sure this foundation is a strong and powerful one. Parents play the most crucial role in a person’s life. Their absence or divided attention can drastically affect a child’s psychology. However, nowadays, having your own identity, too, is extremely important. Many working parents manage their work-family balance even more beautifully than non-working ones. Thus, there is a lot you can do to tackle these difficulties that come along the way.

    • Adjust your shift timings:

When you both are working full-time, one of you can opt for a night shift and the other for a day one. Lots of working parents find this way useful, as one of them always stays with the child. In this way, they don’t have to hire any ‘new’ person to look after their baby. Parents from nuclear families, who surely don’t have their parents or relatives around prefer to do this, as it’s more reliable.

At times, you may feel that you are not getting to spend time with your partner, then one of you can also try to do it part-time.

    • Try to have your office nearby:

I know, I know you can not just lift your office and put it anywhere you want. But one of you can try to relocate your job nearby, it’s not easy either though many parents try to have their jobs within walking distance of 3-4kms for their ease. You can apply to the sister branches of the same company or maybe apply to another one according to your convenience and priorities.

    • Ask for work-from-home:

After a pandemic, this is the favorite solution for so many parents. In many scenarios, the company permits new parents to resume their work from home for the next some months or even a year. This doesn’t only solve your problem but saves you from a lot of hectic and financial issues.

    • Compensate through the weekends:

Try to give your undivided attention to your child on the weekend. Play with them, talk to them, know their needs, what’s upsetting them, what they’re happy about, what they want to do today, etc. You can also sit with them on a Friday night or the day before a week off and ask how they want to spend these holidays with you. If your kid is an infant, then you can just go on a picnic together, or go sit in a peaceful place together or just sit beside them on the bed or couch and feed them. Spending quality time doesn’t necessarily mean having fancy outings but for a change, you definitely can try a lot of things.

Kids family work life balance talks legal

    • Reserve the night talking ritual:

You can always talk to your kids before going to bed. If they’re old enough to study, then read them a story, talk about characters, morals, what they think about it, what according to them is right and wrong, and so on. If they’re young, you can just speak and make them talk to you as much as you can or play with them, make them laugh, etc.

    • Ask for help from a relative or your parents:

You can ask your parents or relatives to help you to manage things for some time. This can be your temporary solution but won’t work for a long time. If you’re looking for a person to look after your kid until you find a better way, then you can choose this.

    • Look for a babysitter or a childcare home:

If you’re in dire need of help may be a temporary one or even for a long time, then you can go for this one. There are many decent and well-maintained childcare houses with caring staff who takes good care of the children. You just have to match your off timing with the pickup timing. This is the least considered way, as people don’t want to leave their young kids with anyone they don’t know, however, if you’re in dire need then this can work for you.

Well, YES. An employee can be dismissed from his employment even after officially submitting a resignation letter. The reason behind this is the employees who haven’t signed the employment contract come under the category of ‘employed at will’. The company can fire these employees at any time as they’re working at will. However, this is not the case with contract-based employment.

Someone having the choice to kick you out doesn’t necessarily mean they will. Nonetheless, it’s always better to be prepared for the worst. Here are some ways in which you can stay prepared for:

    • Check out the company’s policies:

You may check out your company’s policies about providing notice. This is generally mentioned in every employee’s handbook. Companies do have this policy of honoring notices under which they allow their employees to complete their last days of work, after dropping a resignation. This is to protect their reputation in the market. The new joiners would never put their faith in such a brand that ill-treats their leaving employees.

    • Don’t keep all your resources in one place:

Yes please, have a backup for your expenses. Sometimes, even when you’re not sacked then too, the company asks you to stop working after submitting the notice and that might be because they don’t want to pay for it. Thus, not just for this circumstance, but also considering that you could be dismissed at any time you must always have some savings for a time like this. You may have no employment, and you legit won’t know ‘till when’. In any circumstances have your backup plan at your fingertips.

    • Be ready to pack up:

As soon as you give your employee resignation, be ready to leave immediately. In a way that’s the worst that can happen! Well, usually you do have some time to go back to your desk, remove your data & pack up. However, things can be heated up anytime so you may not necessarily have the time to do so. Remove any email you’ve logged in there, beforehand, clear any browser history, saved passwords, etc. Save any information that might help you showcase your experience in your CV. Be in touch with your co-employee in case your access would immediately cut off.

Now, if you think you were protected, but they somehow put you in this situation and did you wrong, here are a few things you can do:

    • Talk to your HR:

Try interacting with your HR about your employee termination. Try to figure out the reason for your dismissal. There might be something else that couldn’t get your attention and thus caused you trouble. Knowing it will also help you in long term, to improve it in your next employment.

    • Communicate with your union representative:

You can also get in touch with your union representative if you’re a member of it. This might get you more information about what you could do next.

    • Consult with a lawyer:

Last but not least, try a more reliable and completely legal way to get yourself justice, if you’re sure about them doing wrong to you. A lawyer can make you understand things in a better way and let you know what the best step can be.

Summing it up, be aware of your company’s past and present conditions from the beginning. Do a proper investigation of the terms, read the agreement carefully and if possible, take feedback from ex-employees. Know about your rights as an employee, and be responsible for your rights. Make and keep a good relationship with your employers.

    Hope this answer helps!

Tiny drops of water make the enormous ocean. Just like that, a company is known by its employees, their performance, accountability, and none other than their trust.

Thus, it’s of utmost importance for any company to keep working on improving the employees’ performance along with their accountability.

Here are some ways for the same:

    • Analyze performance every now & then:

It would be nearly impossible to resolve the hurdles without analyzing the performance scale of each individual. Knowing it makes it easier to make amends wherever you think workflow disrupts. Doing this regularly from the start is not a bad idea.

    • Set expectations accordingly:

Setting higher expectations during onboarding will save you from reminding employees what they’re there for! Along with this, imply the rules and regulations strictly in the beginning so they easily get a hang of it.

    • Leaders should be more accountable:

The supervisors who manage the employees should be more accountable for being determined and behaving in the same manner as the employees. This keeps employees motivated to be more goal-oriented. In some cases, this makes them fulfill their roles and duties even more timely.

    • Show faith in employees and their hard work:

Don’t treat employees like slaves. Empower them and trust them. Small steps like improving the accessibility, and establishing command over their schedules make it hassle-free for them to perform smoothly.

    • Celebrate small successes:

Every employee’s smallest bit of effort should be appreciated. Not just the freshers need this, but the experienced ones too sometimes feel pretty demotivated and frustrated. Reward them with the titles like ‘employee of the month’ or ‘the best performer’. Rewarding them with certain incentives might also help a lot in improving their performance and accountability.

    • Be a little friendly:

Having a decent boundary with your professional connections is always a good idea. However, making a separate personal connection is also not a bad one. Invite them to a party at the weekend, make them work hard in the office, and repeat. Chill together during the break but work together too during office hours. This makes them a little more casual with you and more accountable for improving their performance in front of you.

    • Communicate and welcome any feedback:

Regular feedback sessions allow employees to build trust in the management that ‘they care’. Listen to where they need help from you. Help them resolve wherever they’re stumbling. Make a helpful and reliable workspace. Moreover, letting employees know exactly ‘where they’re lacking from time to time in these sessions makes them speedily make amends.

    • Provide internal promotions:

Often companies look for employees, externally, for higher positions, whereas they can promote well-performing employees. Firstly, this makes a healthy competition for performing ‘better’ within the workspace. Secondly, it is surely less time-consuming, as it would be easier to train your employee. The company itself will gain value with this.

There might also be some key factors hindering the way of an employee’s performance. There might be lesser collaboration chances within the team, some personal disputes among the teammates, some scarcity of support and good resources, etc.

    Hope this answer helps!

Although you forgot to mention your country of citizenship yet on a general note you CAN look out for jobs in Australia with a tourist visa however you CAN’T do anything more than that. Yes, you definitely can not apply to any of the jobs there, which is generally stated in your visa condition.

The reason why I mentioned your country of citizenship earlier is that some countries are allowed to apply for a working holiday visa. This visa makes some tourists eligible to fund their journey in Australia while staying. There is also a proper list stating that individuals from any country except Canada, Ireland, and France within the age range of 18 to 35 can work to fund their journey while traveling to Australia. There are some integral conditions as well with this such as the individual from any eligible country must be having a passport.

As your question is about ‘look for a job’, then you just want to do that, you may interact with people related to your field of work, however, you can not sign an agreement over them till you’re traveling. Nonetheless, if a prospect does get agree with you joining them remotely, then you surely can apply to that once you return from your trip.

Talking about not doing jobs there, what you can do is still left to be talked about.

    • You can volunteer for any work. Many tourists take active participation in volunteer work (not to mention, you should not get paid while doing this.) to know the country’s culture, natives, and history, or maybe to have a taste of the country’s professionalism. To find what makes the country similar or different.
    • You definitely can do any of your urgent job-related work. (Here, I’m talking about the job you have in your home country.) Yes, you’ve gone there to travel, but a lot of people, say, freelancers or businessmen do get any incidental work; that they do anytime they want, which is something anyone can do.
    • You can do some domestic, home-related, or caring work; if you’ve come to meet a relative or friend of yours, or if you make some friends there.

If, by chance, you find yourself in a dreadful situation that you need to work there on an urgent basis, then what you can do is, apply for a new visitor Visa from the tourist stream, stating in your application that you need to work along with the reason for the same. Then, ask for the authority’s permission for the same.

This, however, is not so easy, yet not impossible. All you need to do is to show valid proofs of:

    • Your financial struggling circumstances because of this trip.
    • Your other private emergency reasons, such as medical ones, are to be allowed to work there.
    • Your reasons show that you and your trip companions (family or relatives), would not be able to return with you having this job.
    • The only option left for you is to work there.

After this, it will be entirely up to the authority to give or not permit you to work in the said country.
