Change is the only constant thing. As time passes, you become more surrounded by people from diverse generations with ages-long generation gaps. A company’s approach to attracting a new generation of talent needs to be modified to avoid any gaps disrupting the workflow. The goal is not just to build a new workforce, but to retain and engage them! The objective is to help them realize their full potential as well as to familiarize them with the vices of the corporate world.
To accomplish this, it is essential to take appropriate and relevant actions:
The new generation of people nowadays has a strong desire to make a difference. To make it possible, they look out for diverse challenging opportunities. The more the challenges, the more their growth will be! Thus, to attract them towards the opportunities, you need to make opportunities deserve each of them. It should not be boring like the jobs in the past used to be. Both millennials and Gen-Z have an appetite for hunger.
Employees nowadays are not just in search of more and more money, but more value too. It’s not a secret that they’ll earn money only by doing meaningful work and providing values and solutions to someone. Thus, make the job role and the relevant projects more meaningful to their growth rather than just to the organization.
Well, no one is unaware of the fact that Gen-Z is extremely tech-savvy. Knowing this, how can one not make technology more helpful in engaging them! Make good use of technology, and introduce it into the daily routine at your workplace. They know to get things done in a click, thus all you need to do is let them do that! If you can bring something new to use for things easy for them, it’ll be a great way to retain and engage them.
The new generation has grown up seeing their parents, relatives, etc depressed about their 9 to 5 jobs. Thus, the last thing they don’t want is that. Most of the employees today may be thinking of doing something extraordinary tomorrow. Be it designing the new coolest eCommerce website, grocery delivery service with additional facilities, faster food deliveries, or maybe something we CAN’T even think of. Thus, don’t let the entrepreneur within them die! Fuel them more with leadership tasks. Keep introducing something new and fun in their daily routine to keep their thinking intact. These might even help you gain even more responsible juniors.
They will make you achieve your company’s goal, while you help them achieve theirs! How does that sound? Weird? Interesting? Both? Well, yes you can work like a pirate crew, where the crewmate grows out of their shell throughout the journey while contributing to the captain’s goal. The captain too helps them by believing in them and giving them a job they fit in. The skill they’re good at and want to grow in should be their primary job at your workplace. Look out for what your employees’ strengths and weaknesses are. When you’ll help one in developing out of his\her shell, others will be motivated and attracted to work with you just as that!
