In the US, we really have no laws covering those areas. While some states have introduced a higher minimum wage, it’s still low pay. Long hours are a given, and sometime feel lack of good employment laws in America as much I know. Are employment laws really that bad in the USA?

I think, it varies a lot from state to state. “Blue” states that lean Democrat have pretty good laws that are union friendly, have a decent minimum wage, and require rest breaks and overtimes.
Many of the “Red” states that lean Republican have low minimum wages, “right to work” laws that make unions useless because they can’t require membership (which means people undercutting them) and few worker protections.
